Psycho movie a masterpiece of Cinema
The movie Psycho is considered among the most frightening films ever produced. Fundamental reasons for this consideration are (1) The villain a psychotic killer is the next door nice boy, (2) violence appears when it’s not expected, (3) chiller scenes are laced meticulously with subtle and wit.
Psycho movie innovations
Psycho was not only a revolutionary movie it was also very innovative, too. There are many innovations, the most important of them are related with the story development, the story line and the unforgettable twist at the end of the film.
1. The Main Character Story - Line innovation in Psycho movie
Psycho was the first movie in which a clever who had been cleverly positioned as the main character (protagonist) was killed very early - about forty minutes after the start of the Movie. I need to highlight, the fact that director of Psycho, Alfred Hitchcock, made the initial murder even more disturbing, by choosing Janet Leigh at the height of her celebrity. It was impossible for all to imagine that the main character (protagonist) would be murdered so viciously and arbitrarily.
2. Mise - en - Scene innovation in Psycho Movie
Psycho was the first movie in which the film director filmed a toilet bowl, by putting a star like Janet Leigh on screen in a brassiere in a movie far away from any kind of known sexploitation.
3. Film Directing innovation in Psycho Movie
Psycho movie is known among film lovers by the unique shower scene - obviously is among the best ever in cinema.
Why? Why it’s so popular? Why, all speak, write, discuss and study the Psycho shower scene?
(I). It seemed to show everything - blood, stabbing, naked flesh - but actually there in nothing or at least very very little .
Also, in Psycho movie we can recognize two other great moments of exceptional film techniques.
(II). The cascading death on the stairs, seen from above, and finally the masterfull soundtrack of Bernard Herrman strings shatter the silence and our nerves.
(III). The scene with the corpse of Norman’s mother - in the cellar basement Lila finds the corpse of Norman’s mother is hitting at a lightbulb as she recoils that accents every fright full eye - socket detail. Speechless, there are no words to describe this scene.
4. Promotion Innovation in Psycho movie
Psycho was the first English - language movie to be promoted with the “No one …. BUT NO ONE … will be admitted to the theater after the start of each performance”. Psycho has a unique twist ending, audiences of the day though nothing of arriving in the middle of the film and leaving during the next showing. Alfred Hitchcock knew that his twist - shocking - unforgettable ending would never work in a such environment (where viewers leaving theater during performance) and he instigated a permanent change in viewing habits.
5. Trailer innovation in Psycho movie
Psycho trailer has many innovations and there is a large number of film techniques in use so it’s unfair to write only a few sentences. There are relative articles on my blog - you can read them by clicking (here)
